Ogunquit Family Home Renovation

Ogunquit Family Home Renovation

These clients were about as good as it gets! I started this project when Hobart Contracing reached out looking for help with cabinetry and I will admit, I was a little hesitant of the new challenge of having out of state clients amidst a global pandemic. If I could give a shout out to anyone it would be ZOOM! This family home in Ogunquit was mid renovation and what appeared from the outside as too many cooks in the kitchen, with family members and decisions, changed into a well oiled decision making machine. If we could all have siblings that work this well together and with this many laughs, the world would be a much better place. Our project scope increased to include countertops, cabinetry, hardware and tile. These inset cabinets in a deep grey green are stunning and helped to bring the wooded landscape of Ogunquit from out, to inside. See below for before and after photos and vendor credits!

Before! Hobart Contracting removed the wall between the kitchen and the staircase, immediately opening the kitchen up to the natural lights and views.

Final rendering approved! With the new ceiling height we were able to fit in transom cabinets, and instead of keeping the doors solid we decided to glass out the upper sections and add lighting to brighten highest space. We had a few options going back and forth for the dry bar and settled on this one that includes a beverage center and glassed out cabinetry so we could show off the families passed down stemware.

After! Remember that sink location?! This run now allows a full cooking space. We have a utensil pull out to the left of the stove to keep the counters free of clutter and there’s a photo of that below.

When form and function mix! The new island has a microwave and the cabinet has a deep drawer below for what I usually suggest, tupperware. The sink is from Blanco Silgranit and the sink base has a tilt out drawer for sponges to keep the countertop clean and clear. Dishwasher is close by and the trash pull out is directly behind for a convenient workspace.

The glass tile was sourced through Portico Fine Tile in Greeland Nh and has just the slightest hue that blends the cabinetry and countertops. Casey over at Hobart Contracting set this tile and his center line in the middle of the stove makes my heart so happy.

Okay one more tile photo, you should know I have a thing for tile. We selected Cambria countertops and they were templated and installed by Coastal Countertops. I able to be on site when Gary came to template and if you ever have a chance, you should see the amount of time and the amount of lasers it takes to get this level of perfection, its a craft!

Perfection! Doug at Hobart contracting is one of my all time favorite finished carpenters to install my cabinet designs, its official, just look at this! Every time I had a site visit he was working away but took time to walk me through his thought process, or would openly give me advice, or was open to me asking how he did something. This was such a fun project and learning while enjoying work, well it doesn’t get better than that!
